Are you a young carer?
Young Carers are children and young people up to 25 years of age who help care in families where someone has an illness, a disability, a mental health issue or who has an alcohol or other drug problem.
In Australia there are approximately 380,000 young carers up to the age of 25 and, of these, it is estimated that 170,600 are under the age of 18.
Do you look after someone who has:
- long term illness?
- disability?
- mental illness?
Every young carer's situation is different. They do things like:
- shopping and cooking
- paying bills
- cleaning
- helping with showering and dressing
- giving medication.
We may be able to help
The Young Carers Respite and Information Services Program helps young people who are at risk of not finishing school because they are lokking after a family member.
